PennDOT’s Yellow Dot program assists citizens in the “golden hour” of emergency care following a traffic accident when the injured may not be able to communicate their needs.
Placing a Yellow Dot decal in your vehicle’s rear window alerts first responders to check your glove compartment for vital information to ensure you receive the medical attention you require. Citizens complete a participation form, which includes emergency contact information, medical history, medications, allergies and doctors. PennDOT then mails them a Yellow Dot kit. A photo (showing only the head and shoulders) is then taped to the front of the completed information sheet before inserting it into the kit’s folder. The Yellow Dot decal is placed in the lower left corner of the participant’s rear windshield, no higher than 3 inches from the bottom.
To receive the form, go to https://expressforms.pa.gov/apps/pa/penndot/yellow-dot-participation.
The program is a cooperative effort between PennDOT, the Department of Heath and Aging, the State Police, the Turnpike Commission, first responders and local law enforcement.
