Play It Safe for Fire Prevention Week

Each year, more than 3,500 Americans die and 18,300 are injured in fires.

In celebration of Fire Prevention Week, which began Oct. 9th, please take the time to change the batteries in your home and business’s smoke detectors.

Don’t overload circuits or extension cords. Never place cords and wires under rugs, over nails or in high traffic areas. Immediately shut off and unplug appliances that sputter, spark or emit an unusual smell. Unplug appliances, such as coffee makers, toasters, etc. when not in use.

Watch where you place portable heaters. Don’t place them near walls, draperies, furniture. Keep anything combustible at least three feet away.

When home sprinklers are used in conjunction with working smoke detectors, your chances of surviving a fire are greatly increased.

Don’t forget to plan your escape route from every room in the house or business.
